The Borrower (Rebecca Makkai)

Roman recommandé évidemment par une bibliothécaire parce qu'il parle d'une bibliothécaire. Et justement, j'avais bien envie de lire un roman parlant d'une bibliothécaire. Je me disais que j'y trouverais certainement un tas de titres intéressants (comme si je n'en avais pas suffisamment). Et bien oui, Lucy Hull (la bibliothécaire) nous donne un tas de titres intéressants, mais je n'ai même pas pris la peine de les noter puisque je ne voulais pas arrêter ma lecture. Parce qu'il est prenant ce roman même si Rebecca Makkai se disperse un peu parfois. (C'est un premier roman.) Son but était de dénoncer les fameux centres chrétiens de réhabilitation pour homosexuels. Elle l'enrobe d'une histoire de kidnapping pour être moins évidente (tous les clichés sur les bibliothécaires y passent). L'intrigue est toutefois bien construite. Le livre est drôle, plutôt intelligent et émouvant.

Sur le site de Rebecca Makkai, je vois que le roman serait publié par Gallimard, mais je n'ai pas pu trouver le titre en français.

Lucy Hull, a young children’s librarian in Hannibal, Missouri, finds herself both kidnapper and kidnapped when her favorite patron, ten-year-old Ian Drake, runs away from home. The odd pair embarks on an improvised road trip from Missouri to Vermont, with ferrets and an inconvenient boyfriend thrown in their path. Along the way, Lucy struggles to make peace with her Russian immigrant father and his fugitive past, and is forced to use his shady connections to escape discovery.
